DE UDDER GUYS!
In early November each of the 4 Somerset WSJ Patrols we invited to take part in a 24 hour event. The first took place on Halloween night and we event had a cow carved pumpkin! The event saw Jakes patrol take part in several team building activities aimed to form a perfect team! The patrol's first task was to make their evening meal. They were given a series of ingredients but no instructions, and it was up to the patrol to create a meal.
After the meal they were set a Apprentice Challenge! They were asked to create a new brand of cereal which would advertise the UK Scouts who were attending the World Scout Jamboree! And introducing the brand new cereal brand - Sukauto-Ushi-Moo Flakes! And they advert aimed to promote it!

The Patrol were asked to try out their ideas on they evening entertainment they would offer while in Japan. They practiced pre prepared speeches and they set tents up indoors, and the tents just about fitted!! After a quick hot chocolate and biscuits the day ended!
The following day began with the traditional wake and shake, followed by breakfast! They were then asked to name their patrol and come up with an identity as well as agreeing a numbering off system. They patrol agreed on the name 'de udder guys'. We continued the team building activities by running a Japan in a Box session, and edible pioneering to create a mock up of the units gateway. They also learned how to wash their clothes by hand.
The unit then made Japanese Shin Cup noodles for lunch as well as some Japanese snacks. The noodles were really hot and spicy! A lot of the patrol members mouths were burning all the way up to when their parents come to collect them. The parents we invited to a Q&A session with the leader team before the 1st of 4 sessions came to an end.

THE DAIRY QUEENS
Once 'de udder guys' left the leader team had a quick tea and coffee before we welcomed Matts patrol. The leader team pleased to be provided with a different meal from the patrol using the same ingredients as the night before. The programme was the same as yesterday and the patrol quickly got stuck into creating their new brand of cereal. They came up with the name 'Gurt Lush' 'the cereal that will get you mooooving'. They were very particular about their cereal which was described as biscuity bits and tasty chocolate drops!!
The cow activities were particularly amusing with cow herding with one of the leader team completely loosing all sense of direction. There was a lot of fun and laughter and the idea did need work but it was a great start! The following day the unit came up with a name for their patrol. They all agreed on the name 'The Dairy Queens'. They numbering off idea starts with Matt shouting 'LETS MAKE SOME MILK!'
The Japan in a Box session was a lot of fun with the leader team taking each other on in an epic game of sumo socks! The leaders were very competitive however Kasey eventually put the Guys in their places and won!! While washing their clothes Rob washed his really dirty necker chief! Once the Q&A session was over the weekend was over and the leaders knew they were only half way through and would have to do it all over again in two weeks time! All on the journey to our amazing adventure in Japan
